BSA Troop 118 was created in November 2018 at the First Lutheran Church in Greensboro, North Carolina. The motto for the troop is “Creating a better scouting experience through leadership, service, and adventure!”
Troop 118 meets at First Lutheran on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM. Currently we are meeting online utilizing Zoom. The troop has approximately 50 active members. 4 scouts have earned the rank of eagle since the troop formed.
New scouts will have the opportunity to earn the ranks through 1st Class by the end of their first year if they take advantage of the provide opportunities. Prior to summer camp, the new scout should be able to earn the rank of Scout. At summer camp, they will participate in the first year program that will complete many of the requirements for Tenderfoot, 2nd Class, and 1st Class. The scout will also be given the opportunity to earn the First Aid and Swimming merit badge along with 1 to 2 additional merit badges. When the Scout get back from camp and attends troop meetings and activities, they will continue to finished requirements for Tenderfoot, 2nd Class and 1st Class.
An outing is typically planned for the third weekend of every month. Previous outings have included camping trips to Linville Caverns, the NC Transportation Museum and Hanging Rock State Park.
The troop provides opportunities for the scouts to progress through the ranks as fast as the desire. The troop is also there for the scouts that do not want to advance but prefer the fellowship of the other scouts and participating in the activities.
